"Tango
Nuevo" has seldom been heard so virtuous, so sensual and
intelligent as in the case of this virtuoso trio.
The first CD from "Sureste
TangoTrio" is named "Soledad", after a famous
tango by Astor Piazzolla
(1921 – 1992). This interpretation is one of the finest,
a chamber music delicacy amongst the new releases of "Tango
Nuevo", the renaissance of a transparent, intelligent and
sensual tango free of plush that has reached the concert halls
of Europe in the last few years and has inspired such musicians
as Gidon Kremer and Daniel Barenboim.
Eleven titles, amongst
them being seven arrangements of the great Argentinean’s compositions,
entice you into the tango's musical cosmos without domesticating
it. "Sureste TangoTrio" gives the tango poetical colours
and a jazzy drive, brought over musically with a wonderfully
unconceited expertise so that it is a pleasure to listen to
this music time and time again.
The trio plays tango in
a undogmatic line-up without bandoneon.Therefore the clarinet
of the Pole Witek Kornacki plays its solo part all the more
full of ideas and whims. This instrument has seldom been heard
so rich in colours, here in the exciting, atmospherically dose
dialogue with the guitar of the Spanish virtuoso and clever
arranger Angel Garcia Arne's,
This CD has wonderfully
quiet moments, erotic suspense and powerful humorous tones.
The name "Sureste" (south-east) points to the musician's
countries of origin- Poland and Spain - but also underlines
the origins of tango, the musical mixture of European, African
and Cuban rhythms and chordwork which came together in the immigrant's
sub-culture in Buenos Aires some 150 years ago to form this
unique and unmistakeable sound.
Witek
Kornacki studied clarinet in Gdansk, worked for various
theatre ensembles and also worked intensively on Klezmer music
before discovering the tango. He now lives in Switzerland.
.
Angel Garcia Arnés studied classical guitar in Valladolid
and Hamburg but his main interest lay in Spanish and Argentinian
music: he calls the "Sureste Tango Trio" his musical home.
It took over a year before the three perfectionists were satisfied
with their first CD.
